The Dammeron Valley Fire Special Service District (DVFSSD) Board and Dammeron Valley Fire & Rescue (DVFR) members respectfully recognize the passing of Larry Carlon on 15 November, 2024. Larry served as the board’s Vice Chair from the Fall of 2020 until February 2024. Prior to his appointment to the DVFSSD board by Washington County, Larry regularly attending the monthly DVFSSD meetings. Having once served as a volunteer firefighter, and with his son Tory Carlon working as a full-time Los Angeles County firefighter, Larry was a passionate supporter of the fire services.
Larry and his wife Bonnie, along with their five children, lived in Leona Valley, CA for many years. Larry was well known as an accomplished third generation auctioneer and successful entrepreneur in the automobile and heavy equipment industries. In 1992, Larry was recognized as “The Ten Million Dollar Man” for his auctioneering at charity events in the Palmdale and Antelope Valley areas, raising at least this amount over a period of years during which he volunteered his time, energy, and personal funds. Larry and Bonnie retired to Dammeron Valley in 2014 after traveling for several years in their motorhome.
Larry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bonnie, daughters Tara, Laralee, Darian, son Brent, and 22 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Larry is preceded in death by his son, Tory, who died tragically in the line of duty in 2021 as a result of workplace violence. Larry was one of the first in Dammeron Valley to actively support the idea of transforming DVFR into a combination fire department. His passion for the fire service, full support of DVFR, and outspoken style will be missed. We are grateful for his service, and extend our deepest sympathies to his family.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
